2012… What really happened?

2012WhatReallyHappened

On January 3, 2012 I wrote a list of 8 things I was looking forward to in 2012. Just a small fraction of my hopes and dreams for the year ahead. Overall I have to say this year has turned out completely different to how I expected so here’s a summary of how my 2012 hopes really turned out…

1: HAIR WE COME

2012 HOPE: The launch of Love Harlem. I’ve been working on this with my family for a while and it’s very nearly time for its grand unveiling. Cannot wait.

2012 REALITY: We Launched! June 20, 2012 we unveiled the online store for our hair care co, Love Harlem. it’s been an exciting six months. We’ve had such awesome customer feedback (thank you! xx) and we should be making a TV debut in the new year too… (more on that later).  There’s also so much more we want to do, so watch out for more to come in 2013.

2: BABY LOVE

2012 HOPE: Becoming an honorary aunt as a childhood friend and her husband have their first baby! This is the second of my close friends to have a baby and I’m so excited to meet the little one.

2012 REALITY: I became an honorary aunt, not once but twice! And they’re stunners!

3: GOING TO THE CHAPEL…

2012 HOPE: The spring wedding of another childhood friend. It’s going to be as beautiful as she is.

2012 REALITY: It was beautiful! The bride walked in to At Last by Etta James and the whole things was a truly classy affair. Wish I could share pix but… I love my life :D x

4: IN THE SPIRIT OF TOGETHERNESS…

2012 HOPE: Attending more blogger meet-ups. I tend to miss these things as they’re often on Friday nights or Saturdays when I’m at church but who knows, maybe this year I’ll organise one of my own and finally get to meet some of the fab faces behind these blogs.

2012 REALITY: So unfortunately that didn’t happen at all but I did get to meet a few twitter buddies when we took Love Harlem out and about. Check out our LH blog post on the fab Meet Mutsa eventearlier this summer.

5: OUI PARIS

2012 HOPE: Going to Paris. I’ve still yet to go *hangs head in shame* This year it has got to happen.

2012 REALITY: This year it did NOT happen. So my head shall remain bowed low in shame.

6: MUST WATCH TV

2012 HOPE: The return of The Good Wife, Suits and Parenthood. My top 3 programmes, closely followed by Mad Men and So You Think You Can Dance.

2012 REALITY: All were watched and all were awesome. I should also add The Newsroom to that top list. Love it!

7: MUST WATCH MOVIES?

2012 HOPE: Matt Damon in The Bourne Legacy. Are there any other films out next year? UPDATE: To answer my own question. Yes there is! Red Tails. FURTHER UPDATE: Matt Damon actually isn’t in this year’s Bourne Legacy!?! *flops* FURTHER FURTHER UPDATE: Forget both, Avengers has been the film of the year so far.

2012 REALITY: Unfortunately I haven’t watched Red Tails; the reviews put me off which was a shame. I did enjoyed Bourne Legacy though, which surprised me but Avengers definitely topped the list for me.

8: JUST A-WISHING AND A-HOPING

2012 HOPE: Alexandra Burke’s new album. I can’t help it. I’m still hoping that we’re going to see some glimmer of the talent she showed on X Factor and we can just sweep her first album under the rug.

2012 REALITY: Err… Well… Let’s just say I don’t think she’ll be on my list for 2013. Sad but true.

ALL IN ALL, 2012 WAS A GAME OF TWO HALVES

If I could sum up my 2012 it’s definitely been a game of two halves. Literally had an awesome 6 months followed by an awful 6 months. I’ve had to deal with some monumental stress and tremendous loss but I know that I could not have withstood any of it if it hadn’t been for the prayers said on my behalf and the constant reminder of this passage which has been my theme for the year:

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9

Honestly, this text has been the perfect encouragement to help me make it through 2012 and I hope it encourages others. I know there have many who have had to face numerous challenges this year and I pray for their strength and comfort.

Even in the past 6 months, as hard and as overwhelming as it’s been for me,  I’ve learned so much and grown so much. So now I feel thankful, I didn’t think I’d even have the energy to feel that but I do. I feel at peace and thankful that I made it through one of the most turbulent periods of my life and as for 2013… well yesterday I had an ephiphany… actually I’ll share that in another post.

But for now. This is Harlem, and this has been my 2012. How was 2012 for you?
