The Tresstastic: Viola Davis rocks TWA in LA Times Magazine

Oscar-nominee Viola Davis rocks a TWA and looks stunning with it in a photo shoot for LA Times Magazine. Stun-ning!

Honestly love the overall look for her in this shoot but her hair and face is everything. The interview was interesting too and here’s a few highlights I picked out:

She has a 19-month old daughter named Genesis. Beautiful name.
LA Times name her “one of the most electrifying actresses of her generation.” Yay!
On her move into film production, Viola says: “I am doing this out of necessity. If I am not the instrument of change, I can meander through this business and be the black woman who always has two or three scenes but with fabulous actors around me.”
On the role that changed her career: “You can be in the business for 23 years, which I have been, and suddenly something happens that wakes people up. For me, that was being in a movie with Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Philip Seymour Hoffman [Doubt]… It makes people realize you’re there. Otherwise you’re that black girl who had a guest or costar role in a TV show here or there.”
A film she’s already looking into producing is “The Personal History of Rachel DuPree, a sweeping novel about an African-American woman struggling to farm the Badlands in 1917…” Looking forward to it.

After all my optimism in my last couple of posts I had to take another blogging break after having increased pains in my hands. Sad times but I’m hopeful they’ll recover soon. In the meantime I’m having to go light on the computer usage and my blogs may be fairly brief over the next few weeks.

Don’t think I’m entirely convinced by the hair cut. Though it could be an ode to Wintour. What do you think?

As soon as I saw this very cool ‘making of’ video for the i-D magazine ‘Pretty Young Things’ photo shoot I couldn’t wait to share it with you.

In the video clip Jourdan Dunn mentions that the shoot is about ‘the four hottest black models that are out right now’. Though I could easily believe this to be true I thought I’d double check on Models.com and in fact these four – Chanel Iman, Sessilee Lopez, Jourdan Dunn and Arlenis Sosa – are their highest ranking black models, all making it into the models.com Top 50.

Sessilee Lopez leads the way followed by Jourdan Dunn, Chanel Iman and last but not least Arlenis Sosa. All the models are featured in the video alongside the mags fashion director, Edward Enninful, and photographer Emma Summerton.

Model Sessilee Lopez has done a rather interesting shoot on the set of Sesame Street for Harpers Bazaar’s September 2009 edition.

The shoot features designers Carolina Herrera, Diane Von Furstenburg, Vera Wang, Derek Lam, Thakoon, Kate and Laura Mulleavy (ladies behind the Rodarte label), and Oscar de la Renta alongside pieces from their collection.

I thought the two Oscars in the last pic was cute but Elmo steals the show for me in the first pic.

Vogue Italia features a spread on Black Barbies in a re-issue of its July 2009 edition.

The magazine’s Editor-in-Chief, Franca Sozzani, said: “Barbie has been an icon for whole generations which is why I really wanted to give a strong sign in step with the times, and dedicate the anniversary issue to Black Barbie”.

I have no idea why it’s taken me so long to get into it but I’m more than making up for it now.
