The Interior: A Very White House in Sweden

The first thing that caught my eye with this house was the kitchen. Not that dissimilar to my own, similar tiles, oven hood, large industrial inspired lampshade and open shelves… all the stuff I love but with more space. ‘Tis almost the kitchen of my dreams…

Few things I was naive about when I first moved out and have since come to my senses on…

1: Definitely need space for a table and chairs in the kitchen. It’s nice to be social when cooking

2: No matter how much of a chore mowing a lawn might be it’s always worth having a garden.

3: As far as it is humanly possible try and have a spare room

4: If I’m going to the trouble of remodeling my bathroom, I should definitely throw out the tub, get a shower and use the extra space for storage.

Anyway if you know anything about me by now you know I’m a sucker for white interiors so I loved the look of this apartment though it’s still missing an accent colour or two, maybe a few more patterned textiles or bold prints. That said I really love the vintage wood features they’ve added.

I was in West London yesterday and had the pleasure of strolling down a very pretty street. Honestly, the simple exterior beauty of these homes was so lovely, I had to take a few snaps…

I don’t know if the owners are motivated by a love of flowers, home pride or just the pressure to keep up with the Joneses but it certainly inspired me.

The Interior: David Kaihoi’s bold, beautiful and very small home

How completely gorgeous and amazingly organized is David Kaihoi’s teeny tiny apartment. You know he lives there with his wife and 3 year old child! Amazing

The New York based designer opened his home to House Beauitful and told them:

The way to stay happy when you’re living on top of one another is by ruthlessly editing — one thing in, one thing out. A place for everything, and everything in its place. It’s a difficult and daily battle, but we deal with it.

You should check out the interview the way he managed to re-organise the space and uncover room for extra storage is really pretty cool.

The Interior: Textured Walls and Spacious Rooms

I found the look of this room so interesting, as if it’d been carved out of a rock then styled by Elle. It got me thinking about the way stone and rock can be used in interiors and I think I like it. Brings a bit of the outdoors indoors.

I imagine if done the wrong way it could feel quite cold and not very homely but these rooms looks like the right way can make space feel quite dreamy.

I’ve always loved that look of a hot colour being teamed with bold black and white. It’s so exciting. So I especially love what interior designer Judith Balis has done here.

First stop is the black and white sofa. Vintage build wrapped in a bold modern print. It. is. gorgeous.

Then just look at those those two pink chairs with the zebra cushion… then that wall colour… Oh be still my beating heart… No seriously be still… any more excitement will only end in tragedy.

The Interior: Distressed Walls in London

Admittedly, I don’t think I could live with this look in the long term but I do love the styling. There’s something romantic and nostalgic about it.

Also thought I’d capture this detail from the second bedroom, not just because I like the 1920s styling but because I was pleasantly surprised to see they’ve used the exact same Laura Ashley wallpaper I have in my bedroom.

I complimented the walls with various white pieces of furniture (I’m obsessed with that light and airy feel) but I think the dark wood works pretty well too.

The Interior: Church Conversion

It’s not that I’m against progression or change but whenever I see churches, schools or old Victorian houses carved up into modern flats I always want to change them back…

I think it brings out the nostalgic side of me and I can’t help but feel as if they’ve not only divided the space but chopped into the history of the building itself…

That said, I do appreciate that some conversions when done right can produce some adorably quirky dwellings as shown in the example below taken by photographer Emma Lee.
