Here’s a cute idea. A book with pre-perforated corners to allow you to mark where you are, with grid paper on the inside and apparently the same card used to stiffen collars on the outside…

The good news (if you don’t mind living in a world of nerdy stationery junkies) is that I’m not alone. Just recently I was reminiscing with one of my gal pals on how much we used to love fountain pens back in the day. A Parker fountain pen with no less than 4 different colour cartridges was a sign of immense stationery status at school… as well as evidence of early stationery addiction I guess but it’s too late now…

This beautiful piece of design genius was created by a Ms Kelli Anderson. Here’s what she had to say about the project:

I just finished up a really fun project—a paper record player wedding invitation! In the booklet-style invitation, a bit of paper-folding amplifies the sound of a sewing needle moving along the grooves of a flexidisc record. The hand-spun record yields a garbled, but scrutable listening of a original song by the couple. It requires a bit of tinkering and folding —effectively championing the inner science-nerd kid in the recipient. The whole thing serves as an interactive packaging for the song—which can be experienced on the paper record player, unscrewed + set on a regular turntable, or enjoyed online (for the non-nerds and/or audiophiles out there.

It’s so bold yet still so elegant as a self-confessed stationery addict I’d be happy with just the boxes but then I spotted the pencils too… Swoon

…but after one look at these gorgeously designed pieces and I have to think it’s a very clever mind indeed.

As the blurb from their site explains the calendar “is printed in four colours on matt paper, and comes with its signature black ribbon binding. This year, to celebrate its fifth anniversary, it will be available in a special large 50 x 70 cm size as well as in its standard A3 format, each in a numbered edition of 500.”

No longer are we forced to choose between the two styles, and yes I am purposely ignoring plain paper (my handwriting runs amok without linear guidance) but with this notebook we get the best of both worlds.

Together at last, grids and lines… maths and english… graphs and notes… design and poetry… I’d better stop now except to say they come in a pack of 3 and cost $9.50 from Doane Paper.
