There’s a CD currently on rotation in my car at the moment and it’s this one. Bobby Bovell’s The Emergent Eclektic.
I’ve known Bobby for a number of years and always found him to be a creative talent so when I discovered he was working on an album I was already excited. Even then I would never have expected the result that is The Emergent Eclektic.
Though there’s a variety of sounds on the album the strongest musical influence seems to be from Bobby’s reggae heritage. As the son of the famed reggae artist Dennis Bovell of the British reggae band Matumbi, Bobby seems to have poured this inspiration into some of my favourites on the album. I’m not the only one who thinks so either as his track ‘Rosie’ has already received much airplay on Choice FM and Premier radio.
As a gospel album it’s full of hope, encouragement and also real life stories. There’s the track about a man who put up walls to keep from getting hurt (I know that story *smh*) or the girl who keeps doing wrong even though she wants to do right (mm hmm that one to *raises hand*).
Overall The Emergent Eclektic’s an album which starts my day off right which is why I’ll thoroughly enjoy playing it on full blast, windows down, driving through the streets of London this Summer.
My sister blog Switchnation.TV interviewed Bobby recently about the album. Check it out below.
The Emergent Eclektic is available to download on iTunes and the CD will be available to purchase from his website which is coming soon. In the meantime you can follow Bobby Bovell on Facebook for news of his upcoming gigs.
