I don’t think Transport for London (TfL) realised the pressure they put on us law-abiding citizens when they dismissed the old jump-on-and-off routemaster buses in favour of these modern closed contraptions…
During those times when a bus stop is actually a mile further away from where I want to get off, beads of perspiration have begun to form on my brow as I stare longingly at the emergency exit button and endure a battle of wills on whether to push it and enjoy my instant freedom or not and remain in law-abiding peace.Fortunately, it seems like someone at TfL has pity on our plight and launched a
competitionto redesign the routemaster which, as a Londoner born-and-bred, is as much a part of my fond memories as penny sweets and budgie bicycles.
So the winners have been announced and two entries came in as a joint first for their genius designs. The first design was completed by car manufacturers Aston Martin in partnership with architects Foster + Partners whilst the second is by coach and truck design company, Capoco Design.
Apparently, bus manufacturers will use both designs to create a prototype by 2011.
