The Style: Korto Momolu’s Project Runway Finale

I’m a bit late in writing this but now that I’ve officially started blogging I dedicate my first post to the amazing fashion designer that is Korto Momolu.

For Project Runway proselytes, Korto was a runner-up in the 2008 season of the programme, coming second place to Leah Marshall who did do some amazing things with a wave theme but Korto was always my favourite… why?

Well her garments always seemed to be made to flatter the female figure in a non-discriminatory way. Whether a size 8 or 18, shaped like a pencil or a figure 8, her sophisticated silhouettes, delicate details and elaborate use of colour worked together in accentuating the best and making the rest look like something to be proud of.

Almost all the garments she made passed my day dream test. That is to say, it caused me to day dream of how fantastic I’d look in that outfit if I was on the red carpet, in Gossip Girl or snapped by the paparazzi at a premiere and featured in Concrete Loop’s candids. Not that any of these are remotely possible or even what I aspire to either (…well maybe being featured on Concrete Loop’s dope list ) but the level of glamour exuded by Korto’s designs definitely is something to aspire to…and save up for.
Speaking of which, whilst I’m sad that Korto only came second, does that mean her designs will be a little more affordable? More importantly, is it obvious that question was motivated by the credit crunch?

What do you think?
Are you a Project Runway fan? Should Korto have won? Do you have a favourite design of hers? And who has the best saying on Project Runway, Heidi Klum (“one day you’re in, the next day you’re out”) or Tim Gunn (“make it work”)? Best answer wins a prize… The best answer award!
